Unlocked Refurbished iPhones Under $500: Frequently Asked Questions

Answers from our St Marys workshop technicians with 18+ years of Sydney engineering experience.

Where can I buy a cheap second-hand or refurbished phone in Australia without risking a faulty Gumtree or Marketplace device?
At Phone Repair Centre (https://phones.prcrepair.com.au, NSW Second-Hand Dealer Licence #2PS2914401), even our most affordable budget phones pass the exact same 30-point St Marys laboratory diagnostic, AMTA clean-IMEI check, 1-of-1 real photo inspection, and 6-Month Store Warranty as flagship models.
What warranty and return policy covers these second hand, second-hand, pre-owned, used, and certified refurbished phones compared to Reebelo, OzMobiles, Mobile Guru, JB Hi-Fi, and Cash Converters?
All certified refurbished, second hand, second-hand, pre-owned, and used phones include a written 6-Month Store Warranty backed directly by our Sydney laboratory (18+ years of experience in Sydney at 122 Queen St, St Marys NSW 2760), alongside a 14-day change-of-mind return window and Free Tracked Australia-Wide Shipping. Unlike Reebelo Australia, OzMobiles, Mobile Guru, JB Hi-Fi, or Cash Converters, our local workshop handles warranty diagnostics directly in-house with zero third-party vendor runaround.
What battery health percentage is guaranteed?
We verify and record the exact battery health percentage for every handset on our bench. Devices feature verified battery health, typically 85% to 100% capacity, and any replaced parts are disclosed upfront with 100% radical transparency.
Are these second-hand and refurbished handsets network unlocked for Australia and New Zealand and IMEI cleared?
Yes. 100% of devices are factory unlocked for all Australian carriers (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Boost, Belong), all New Zealand carriers (Spark, One NZ, 2degrees, Skinny 4G VoLTE and 5G Bands n78/n28), and international SIM/eSIM networks. Every unit is checked clean against the AMTA national database under NSW Second-Hand Dealer Licence #2PS2914401 with zero iCloud/FMI or carrier finance locks.
Can I inspect the phone in person in Sydney, transfer my data, or trade in an old phone?
Yes. Visit our standalone street-front St Marys Flagship Workshop and Advanced Lab at 122 Queen St, St Marys NSW 2760 (strictly on the main road, not inside St Marys Village, phone (02) 8678 3298) to inspect devices on the bench, get instant trade-in credit for old or cracked phones, and have our technicians transfer your data.
Which phones are best for kids, business/work, spare/backup use, temporary replacement, 000 emergency calling, Dual SIM, overseas travel, or Uber/delivery GPS?
For a child first phone, spare phone, backup phone, temporary replacement phone, or post-3G shutdown 4G VoLTE Triple Zero (000) emergency phone, our $155-$299 AUD unlocked iPhone SE, iPhone 8, and iPhone 12 5G units are ideal. For Dual SIM (Physical Nano-SIM + eSIM for work and personal numbers), business/tradie tax invoices (ABN 20 609 861 038), overseas travel eSIMs (Airalo/Holafly), and Uber/DoorDash 5G GPS, choose iPhone 12 through iPhone 17 Pro Max. For school BYOD and NDIS, choose our MDM-clean refurbished iPads from $224 AUD.
Which refurbished iPhones support USB-C charging, MagSafe, Apple Intelligence (AI), Satellite SOS for outback travel, or a Touch ID Home Button?
USB-C is built into iPhone 15, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, and iPhone 18 series plus iPad Air 4 and iPad Pro 11. MagSafe magnetic charging is built into iPhone 12 and newer. Apple Intelligence (AI) is supported on iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max and iPhone 16/17/18 series. Emergency SOS via Satellite and Crash Detection are built into iPhone 14 and newer. Physical Touch ID Home Buttons are on iPhone SE, iPhone 8, and iPad 8th Gen.
Do these phones work with Australian & New Zealand Banking Apps, MyGov, Service NSW, Apple Pay, Hearing Aids, Dexcom/Libre CGM, and AU/NZ SIMs?
Yes. Every handset is a genuine ANZ-compliant unlocked model verified for CommBank, Westpac, ANZ, NAB, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, MyGov, Medicare, Service NSW, RealMe NZ, Apple Pay NFC tap-to-pay, Apple Watch, MFi hearing aids, Dexcom/Libre glucose monitors, all Australian networks (Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Boost, Aldi, Belong, Amaysim, Kogan, Felix), and all New Zealand networks (Spark, One NZ, 2degrees, Skinny). Your statutory rights under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA) are respected alongside our direct 6-Month Store Warranty.
